17. Twelve months later.
I was packing my things nervously. I was waiting to be back to Spain, to smell it, to see it, to feel it… But I had a growing fear in my chest. I couldn’t say why, but I was scared to meet Ony and Mikel. So I decided to keep my visit to Spain in silent and I hid it from Mikel when we talked for the last time, which was two days ago…
I looked at the photo Mikel sent me some time ago. He was standing on a beach and smiling like only he can. His sunglasses were in his hand, with another hand he was showing a thumb up and I smiled. He was funny and sweet at the same time…
I shook my head. It wasn’t the right time to dream about my friend. Yes, we were friends and time we spent far away from each other made us even bigger friends. I didn’t want to imagine how he would feel if he found out I was going to Spain…
I grabbed my phone and dialed Mikel’s number. But then I suddenly pressed the red button and got back to packing. All things were dropping out of my hands and I was all trembling.
‘It is just a journey…just a journey,’ I said to myself and made few deep breaths.
‘Sweetie, you’re getting late!’ my mom yelled and came into my room. When she saw the chaos around me, she gasped. ‘Oh my God, you need help,’ she said and started packing my things.
‘Thanks, ma…’ I only said and rubbed my neck.
‘Is something wrong?’ she asked and put the last cloth into my bag.
‘I am not sure. You see, Mikel…’ I started saying, but my mom stopped me from talking.
‘If it is only Mikel, then don’t bother telling me. I know all already and you are late. Better go now,’ she said and kissed my forehead. ‘I am sure everything will be fine.’
‘Oh I hope so… How much I hope so,’ I whispered and hugged my mom.

‘Please, fasten your seatbelts,’ a stewardess said. I nervously fastened it and looked through the window. The plane was slowly moving and I wanted to fall asleep so that I don’t spend those hours thinking of all. I couldn’t understand why I was acting like that and, what was worse, I couldn’t control it. And I couldn’t stand it!
After those days with Mikel, I realized that in a way he was right. I needed to grow up and I did that! Being far away from Mikel also had an influence on me, I really missed him a lot and started to value our friendship much more.
Suddenly, I remembered my cousin’s and mother’s words. They both thought I liked Mikel deep inside even though back then I was talking about Ony a lot… I was dreaming of him, I remembered his kiss all over again… But time erased a lot. A lot, but not Mikel’s friendship, not his smile, not his laugh, not his eyes… And his words when he was saying I am not his type of girl…
My head bumped into the seat in front of me and I rubbed my eyes. ‘Was I sleeping?’ I thought. I shook my head and with relief saw my neighbours by seats sleeping. Nobody saw me hitting the front seat with my head.
I imagined what would Mikel say and I smiled. ‘Yes, he would tease me,’ I thought and almost laughed when I saw his face clearly in my mind. And then I thought what Ony would say… And I realized I don’t know Ony. I finally understood that all I felt for Ony was some kind of passion, a crush, a childish love…
And a worse thought came to my head. It made me shiver and brought tears to my eyes. I realized that my feeling for Mikel was much more adult, it wasn’t selfish, it was deep and based on a great friendship. And the pain, which was brought by thoughts of Mikel disliking me, Mikel having so many girls and not needing me, Mikel thinking of me as of a child, that pain when I realized Mikel thinks I will always stay his friend…
The plane was landing already and I with fear thought that I fell in love with Mikel.
