Part 4
‘What?’ I was staring at Nick.
‘What what?’ he asked calmly.
‘I don’t...I don’t…I don’t want to!’ I said silently but firmly.
‘Your eyes are big as if you were on drugs, calm down,’ Nick tried to fool around, but this time I didn’t smile.
‘It won’t work this time, mister. What you said again?’ I asked.
‘That…’ Nick said and placed a book into my bag. ‘…I will…’ he put in another book. ‘…not take you home today from university…’ he closed my bag and placed it on his back. ‘…but instead we will go to see my family,’ he finished the sentence and smiled.
I was still standing in the corridor of uni and staring at him.
‘I can’t believe it,’ I just stuttered.
‘Come on, my mother asked me about my girlfriend, I told her about you, she seemed to be very pleased and she wanted to meet you. Everything is very fine, what are you worried about?’ he asked a bit irritated.
‘Well, about YOUR FAMILY? I am your girlfriend for only two months…’
‘…two and a half…’
‘Fine, almost for two and a half, but still… To meet your family… I am scared!’ I said.
‘I will be with you, what bad can happen? If my mother starts running after you with a kitchen knife, I will take you home, I swear,’ Nick said. His humour helped me to realize I can move. I leaned against the wall.
‘Now? You want to take me there NOW? Dressed like that?’ I asked.
‘What is wrong with your dress?’ he asked and scanned me through. ‘You look totally PAH,’ he showed thumb up and made a funny sound.
‘Well… Well… I wish I could be more prepared…’ I said slowly.
‘So we can go now?’ he asked and looked at the watch. ‘I thought you want to leave a good impression,’ he smiled to me gently.
‘Well yes, but… And how about my Spanish?’ I tried my last argument.
‘I will be able to translate, but my brother knows English really well, my parents can talk it a little bit too. I am sure you will be fine with the knowledge you have,’ Nick said and took my hand. ‘You’re going or staying?’ he asked.
‘Going going…’ I sighed and let him lead me.
‘Really, don’t worry. Things will go just fine, you’ll see,’ Nick said and pecked my cheek. He put his arm around me. ‘I will take you home after the dinner, ok?’
‘Yeah, sure. I hope your parents won’t keep me for a sleepover,’ I tried to smile, but my jaws weren’t moving right.
