My head was still firmly in his hands. There was no escaping now. He leaned forward, his breath smelling of coffee. His eyes were closed and his lips pursed. Was he going to kiss me?
Naaaaah.
He continued coming closer and closer, time seemed to slowdown. My eyes were fixed open, and they kept flickering from his mouth to his eyes and back again. My breathing got heavier, and my heart beat faster. Eventually his lips touched mine, soft and caring. Our lips entwined and his lips caressed mine. He was a good kisser! His lips tasted nice, was that a hint of strawberry lip balm? I closed my eyes, I was enjoying this moment, but I wasn’t sure if it felt right. There was a voice in my head telling me it wasn’t. Suddenly Javi’s tongue got a bit to boisterous for my liking, and I pulled away suddenly. Javi opened his eyes in surprise.
- Oh. He sounded disappointed.
- I’m sorry, I just…
- No, it’s my fault. It was rude of me to do that.
- No I wasn’t rude at all! It was a nice gesture.
- Really, you think so?
- Yeah, you made me feel better, the best thing a friend can do! I hugged him.
- A friend. He looked at the floor.
- Yeah, you are one of my best friends! Friends forever!
- But that is all I will ever be…
- What?! Javi, not this now!
- I’m sorry, but I had to know… The moment felt right and…
- I know, and it was good.
- The kiss you mean?
- Yeah, but I just broke up with Ony, one of your mates! I don’t want you to be my rebound.
- Your rebound? I’ll settle for that…

- I was going to ask if you wanted to dance with me, but Ony completely took over the moment. I even asked the D.J. if he would play Valentine, as I knew it was really romantic.
- Ooh, Javi. I sighed. I had no idea.
- I know you didn’t.
- If you liked me so much why did you ask Ony to ask me out, like I asked you? Surely that would have hurt you?
- It did hurt me, so much more than you know. I only did it because I wanted you to be happy, that was all that mattered.
I sighed. What was I meant to say to that? There was an awkward silence for about 10 minutes before someone broke the tension.
- Look it’s fine. Javi said. Who was I kidding? This was never going to happen.
- I’m so sorry Javi, I never meant to cause you so much pain.
- I know, and I don’t dislike you for it. I just enjoyed the time we spent together, even if it wasn’t as romantically as I would like. For ages friends was fine with me, I was just glad that I had some relationship with you. It killed me all the time to know you and Ony were together.
Again, I didn’t know what I was to say to that.
- Javi, I can’t think about this now, I need to have a think and get some sleep. See you in the morning.
