My Dear Diary

Prologue
Hi everyone! Let me introduce myself: my name is Amanda Hernandez. I’m 18 years old and I live in Spain. I have brown eyes and straight blonde hair which reach my shoulders. I may not be a model but I look quite pretty.
I have a sister and an older brother. My sister, Monika is the same age as I am. She always manages to somehow get into trouble and I have to be the one who saves her. I suspect her appearance has got to do something about that. Her green eyes and silky brown hair definitely make her look like a beauty queen next to me.
My brother, Basty, is 3 years older than us. His eyes are gray and his hair is light brown. And he’s so tall! But he’s very nice and always there for us when we need him.
Our mother, Elena, is a very kind person but we usually don’t agree with each other’s mind. I’ve just made up my mind upon attending the university of Liverpool in England where I will study the law in order to become a lawyer. My mother (who isn’t in fact my biological mother; she adopted me when I was 5) doesn’t like the idea of my being so far away from home but I have made my decision. I will take this opportunity that’s given to me and make the best of it. I don’t want to end up like her; a mere cosmetician when I have the chance to do something better of my life. Besides, Basty is already there studying so she shouldn’t worry that much about me. Or should she?

Part 1

My dear diary,
It’s been already a week since my first day at university. Everything’s fine for the time being. I’m living with Basty while still looking for a job so that I can afford my own apartment. It’s great here! I love England! Being so far away from my mother has helped me relax. Of course, having in mind that Monika is coming to study here too isn’t that cool ‘cause I’ll have to look after her AGAIN. She’s to be studying English literature but she’s already a week late.
To be honest, today was a very interesting day… I was entering the classroom when I realized I was a little late. I sat in a hurry next to a tall girl with blue eyes and long brown hair that I’ve seen before but never spoken to.
“Excuse me, how long has it been since the lesson started?” I asked her
“About five minutes ago. You haven’t missed so much” she replied with a smile. “I’m Laura by the way”.
“I’m Amanda. Nice to meet you”.
And just then my eye caught someone in the front seat turning back to us.
“Hi, I’m Mikel”, he said smiling. And what a smile! What a face! Green eyes, black hair in a face like an angel’s. Recalling his beautiful smile nearly makes me fly to the sky…
“Hi, I’m Amanda” I introduced myself smiling back.
I didn’t notice anything else that went through the lesson. I couldn’t help staring at him.
While I was preparing to leave the classroom a voice coming from behind me startled me.
“Hey Amanda, how about coming for some coffee with me?”
It was Laura asking.
“Sure, why not? Let’s go”.
We went to a café near the university. We talked for hours and found out that we have a lot in common. It’s great making new friends.
So that’s one of the three good things that happened to me today. Well, the third one is just as good as bad…
The second good thing of today is that I finally got a job! At the same café where I was chatting with Laura. She also asked to move with her to her apartment, which she said was too big for her. I said yes, of course! And then…my mobile phone rang
“Hey sis!” Monika said
“Hey Moni, what’s up?”
“Well, I just arrived. Could you give me the address?”
“OK, do you have paper and pen?”
“Yep”
“23rd Light Street”
“Ok, got it, thanks see ya!”
“Bye. I’m sorry Laura, but I have to go. We’ll talk tomorrow about the moving details, ok?”
“Ok, bye”
“Bye”
I left the café and went (to my temporary) home. Monika was already there. We went upstairs and I told them about my getting a job and finding an apartment so that we could leave Basty to his quiet life before we came here.

Part 2

My dear Diary,
Today was perfect! I woke up early this morning in a very good mood though I couldn’t tell the reason why. I brushed my teeth, dressed up and after I ate my last breakfast at Basty’s kitchen, I took my laptop and left to the university. I had a project to hand over and a 2-hour class to attend to. I got there half an hour earlier and headed to Mr. Angele’s office. I was pleasantly surprised to find Mikel waiting outside the office. I was sure he wouldn’t remember me but I was wrong
“Hi Amanda” he greeted me.
“Hey Mikel”
“How are you?”
“Fine, thanks” I said
“So, here to hand over your essays aren’t you?”
“Yep, you too, I suppose”
“Yes, I hope I haven’t made a ton of mistakes” he said rolling his eyes.
“He he”
“So…what are you doing after class?”
“Well, I was planning to meet Laura for some moving details, I’m moving to her apartment. Why do you ask?”
“I was thinking whether you’d like to go for some coffee with me but since you’ve already made your plans…How about going for a drink tonight? I’ll ask some friends of mine to come too. You can also tell Laura or anyone else you want. What do you think?”
“Sounds interesting…”
“So, let’s say 7 o’clock at the ‘Pixie’s’?”
Ok, we’ll be there”.
“Great”
“I think you should go in now. Mr. Angeles is waiting for you” I said
“Oh, right”
He handed over his paper and left. I followed in after him and then went to the classroom. Laura was already there sitting at her usual seat ready to take notes of Mrs. Posna’s lecture. I told her about Mikel’s invitation and she agreed to come. After class we went to the same café as yesterday (where I will be working every weekend) and discussed about my moving to her apartment. She also agreed to Monika moving too.
When I told Basty I would go out tonight, he asked me only three questions: with who? Where? When? Then Monika and I got out luggage and left for our new home. It is an old three-floor building located near the city center. Our apartment is very comfortable and nice. I like it very much! We all have our very own bedroom equipped with new and fashionable furniture. At last, absolute independence!
I have to go get dressed now. I’ll write all the details tomorrow.
