I was packing my things and crying. I was swearing myself for making such a mistake and ruining such a beautiful friendship… And at the same time I was glad that all was over, that all my dreams were broken, because I finally stopped to hope.
‘You are leaving already, miss?’ the guy next to reception desk asked.
‘Yes, I got urgent news from homeland,’ I lied and as a proof I rubbed my red eyes.
The guy started moving around faster and after few minutes I left the hotel. I hoped Mikel didn’t see me leaving, but my hopes were in vain, because when I went through the doors outside, I saw Mikel coming towards the hotel. When he saw me with the bags, his eyes became bigger and a little bit scared. For a moment I thought he will run to me and stop me, but luckily a taxi was passing by and I got into it fast.
‘To the airport and please, as fast as you can,’ I said to the driver and he nodded. I fell on the seat and looked out through the window at Mikel. He tried to run after the cab for a while, but then gave up and stopped. I felt a tear on my cheek and wiped it away. ‘It’s the end,’ I whispered to myself.
I closed my eyes and hoped that after short time everything will be ended and I will leave the Spain. But after few moments I opened my eyes and with fear realized somebody was riding a bike nearby the taxi. I looked out the window and saw Mikel… My heart stopped for a moment.
‘STOP THE CAR!’ I yelled to the driver. Mikel was driving like an insane man and I got scared for his life. I knew that the only way to stop him was to stop myself.
‘Yes, miss,’ the driver said calmly. I thought that it wasn’t the first time for him to be in such situation. He stopped the car and I came out of the taxi.
‘Are you INSANE?’ I yelled at Mikel. ‘You could have died!!! You were driving like crazy!!!’ I yelled again. But Mikel just jumped next to me and hugged me.
‘You care,’ he whispered.
‘Of course I care! Where is your helmet?!’ I yelled at him again.
‘What?’ Mikel laughed. ‘You think I cared about it? When I saw you leaving the hotel with your bag…’ Mikel was saying. Then he stopped and looked into my eyes. ‘Thank God I stopped you,’ he said and smiled.
‘Who told you that you stopped me?’ I asked Mikel. ‘I am still leaving…’
‘No, you are not, I am not letting you go,’ Mikel said and then took me into his arms. ‘Besides, you still wear MY jacket and I want it back soon,’ he laughed.
‘Mikel!’ I yelled and started hitting his back, but I couldn’t hit hard. I heard Mikel laughing and felt that I joined him soon. ‘What are you doing, huh?’ I asked then.
‘Well, taking you home,’ Mikel said and put me on his bike. ‘I won’t let you leave Spain so easily…not now,’ he said and leaned to kiss me, but I turned my head away.
‘Mikel, what you said some time ago…’ I was saying, but Mikel took my chin with his hand gently and turned my face at him.
‘Forget those words. I was mad, I thought you loved Ony, I was so jealous since I first saw you kissing, but I thought you would never love me,’ Mikel said and then caressed my lips with his thumb. ‘I need you… I don’t need any other girl, I don’t want any other girl… I love you, only you,’ Mikel whispered and my eyes became all wet and red once again. ‘Here’s my little scared kitten,’ Mikel laughed softly and leaned again. This time I didn’t turn my head away.

23. Five months later.
‘Mikel, are you sure this jacket looks well on me?’ I asked and turned around in front of the mirror.
‘Yeeees,’ Mikel said and yawned.
‘Mikel!’ I said irritated. ‘Can’t you concentrate?’
‘Sorry,’ Mikel laughed and stood up from the couch in the shop. He came closer and put his arms on my shoulders from behind. Then he showed at the mirror. ‘You look better than with my jacket,’ he laughed.
‘Oh Mikel,’ I only said and smiled. ‘You are…you…you are so…’ I was trying to find the right word, but I didn’t manage.
‘Amazing, I know,’ Mikel laughed.
‘You wish! That clerk is better!’ I teased Mikel and he scowled.
‘You think so? Damn… Now I will have to kill him!’ Mikel joked and we both laughed.
‘Mikel…?’ I then whispered quietly.
‘Yeah?’ Mikel replied.
‘I love you,’ I whispered and caressed his hand. I looked behind my shoulder. ‘Are you sticking something on my back?’ I then asked firmly.
‘Damn!’ Mikel said guilty. We both laughed again. ‘You are the best,’ he said after a while and looked at the mirror. We were indeed a beautiful couple. We both changed to better since we became one…
‘I know,’ I laughed. ‘And you know, you were right, I needed to grow up,’ I admitted.
‘And I needed to fall in love,’ Mikel also said and pecked my cheek. ‘By the way, the jacket’s amazing on you,’ Mikel then whispered into my ear.
‘Then buy me this jacket so that we can finally leave,’ I said and took the jacket off.
‘Women,’ Mikel pretended to be mad at me and went to the clerk to say we wanted to buy the jacket. I only laughed at him.
After few moments we were sitting on a bench and eating ice-cream. It was a sunny weekend and I was free from university. Mikel also had a free weekend, so we decided to spend it together.
‘Mikel, I always wanted to ask whose shirt I smeared back when we met?’ I said and licked my ice-cream. Mikel’s arm was around my waist and I was feeling safe and happy.
‘Ony’s actually… I borrowed it, cause I…uhm…well…’ Mikel started stuttering.
‘Cause you well what?’ I asked.
‘Well, I wanted to look handsome to one girl I was going to meet,’ Mikel admitted.
‘The one who yelled at me in Spanish?’ I asked.
‘Uhm…ehm…ehem… No, not really,’ Mikel said and lowered his eyes. He pretended to be very interested in his ice-cream.
‘Mikel! How MANY girlfriends did you have?’ I asked worried.
‘It doesn’t matter! Matters only that I have one and only girlfriend now,’ Mikel said.
‘You…you…you lecher!’ I shouted.
‘And you’re a spoilt child! I can bet you will start crying if I steal your ice-cream!’ Mikel laughed and grabbed my ice-cream.
‘Mikel, don’t…’ I tried to warn him, but I was too late. Mikel was already eating my ice-cream.
‘See…you…you…cry…eh…’ Mikel started saying the words hardly and gasped. ‘Banana…ice…ice…ice-cream,’ he finally stuttered.
‘Yes, my favorite,’ I laughed. ‘Are you fine?’ I then asked.
‘Yes…will…be alright...in a minute,’ Mikel said but I shook my head.
‘Come on, let’s get you to the hospital,’ I said and helped Mikel to stand up. We went to my bike and after few moments there were only me, Mikel, speed and wind. And our love.
